Information on Curcumin

Curcumin is a polyphenol, derived from the rhizome of the herb Curcuma longa showing a wide range of biological and pharmacological activities. Equally important properties, such as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antimicrobial and anti-carcinogenic, are the active principles of turmeric (Curcumin). Various animal and human studies have proven that curcumin is extremely safe, even at very high dosages. The yellow-pigmented fraction of turmeric contains curcuminoids, which are chemically related to the main ingredient, curcumin. The major curcuminoids present in turmeric are demethoxycurcumin (curcumin II), bisdemethoxycrucmin (cucumin III) and cyclocurcumin. The major components of commercially available curcumin include curcumin I, curcumin II and curcumin III, with curcumin I being the major component.

Praise for Turmericle

One of our horses was having intermittent lameness at the start of the endurance year. We had a full lameness assessment done with our vet and our horse was turned out to rest a very inflamed coffin joint. I started him on Turmericle as well as the prescribed medication given by the vet and within a month he was already moving better. The prescribed medication was only given for one month but I kept the horse on Turmericle for continued joint support. After three months of rest and Turmericle daily in his feed, he was brought back into work. He was prepared for his first 80km endurance ride and 6 months after his lameness assessment, our vet said he would be ok to enter a ride if he was kept off slippery surfaces and avoided concussive surfaces. He completed his first 80km ride after injury and he didn’t once show any signs of discomfort. He vetted through with all A’s and 1’s, trotting out beautifully at the final vet check. A month after completing this ride he also completed another tough, slippery and hilly ride. His on-going joint support is provided by a daily dose of Turmericle.

Frequently Asked Questions About Turmericle

Turmeric is fine to feed alone. However, by adding in oil and black pepper you increase the bioavailability. Curcumin, found naturally in turmeric is fat soluble. It is not water soluble. Feeding together with an oil therefore assists the passage of Curcumin across the intestinal endothelial wall, and the microbial biofilm. Polyunsaturated oils and monosaturated oils (olive oil) are absorbed and slowly transported through the lymphatics to the liver. By comparison, the saturated tropical oils (coconut oil) enter the portal blood and transported quickly to the liver. Coconut oil is the preferred oil. Curcumin metabolism in the liver. Curcumin is treated as a foreign substance by the liver. It is therefore rapidly metabolised and excreted. Piperine in black pepper blocks curcumin excretion by the liver and increases Curcumin bioavailability.

Turmericle contains a blend of two different species of turmeric to optimise the benefits they both offer. One form, Curcuma longa, is the traditional type of turmeric commonly used in cooking, foodstuffs, cosmetics and medicine. Curcuma xanthorrhiza, has been used as a traditional medicinal plant in some tropical countries such as Indonesia and Malaysia. It contains the xanthorrhizal oil which confers unique benefits.

I have been using Tumericle for my for Irish Sports Cob mare along with Vitastance for a couple of years. She is looking and feeling fabulous.
I also use Tumericle for my very old Saluki/Greyhound and it has made a massive difference to his mobility. I didn’t give it to him for a couple of weeks recently and when I put him back on it, the difference was quite astounding. It has made such a difference that I have been able to reduce the meds from the vet and am considering cutting these out completely. My dogs also have CoCoMutty which is brilliant for coat, condition and digestion.
